Pastoral counselors are clergy and others who have received graduate training in both religion and psychotherapy. They integrate psychological and spiritual perspectives into their counseling practice. Pastoral counselors pay special attention to how a person’s faith might be a resource for coping or change.
Pastoral counselors believe that the counseling relationship can help people experience the loving and healing presence of God. While each pastoral counselor has unique religious beliefs, pastoral counselors serve people of all faiths and people who profess no faith.
